These days many applicants submit their__ Curriculum vitae (CV)__ speculatively to companies they would like to work for. In other words, they do not apply for an advertised job but hope the employer will be interest enough to keep their CV on file and contact them when they have a vacancy. When replying to an advertisement, candidates often fill in a / an _ Application form_ and write a /an _Résumé __. The employer will then invite the best candidates to attend a/an   _Interview __. Sometimes candidates will take a/an__Psychometric  test _ before the interview to assess their mental ability and reasoning skills. These days it is normal for successful candidates to have to work a/an__Probationary  period _ in a company. This is usually three or six months; after that they are offered a permanent post.

When the companies lose high performers feels a financial impact because it means a loss of a guide and inspiration and, as consequence, the productivity falls. In addition, the companies have to invest in training.

Among the motivating factors, the article mentions the money, a good financial package, empowerment, challenge of the job, a platform to self-development, offer time or regeneration, provide a coach or mentor, a well environment and signals that the employees are special people to the company.

Open your Market Leader book on page 74. Readthebackground related to Slim Gyms Case study and the file cards on page 75. Then, listen to the interview extracts (track 8.5-8.8).
2.Meet with a partner by skype and decide on the best candidate for the job. Prepare an online power point presentation (prezi.com) in which you show the main strengths and the possible weaknesses for each candidate. You will use your presentation during the tutorial.


3.Post your presentation in the blog section.

  • telling him/her that he/she has been chosen for the position.
  • giving him/her the reasons why he/she was the best candidate.
  • explaining to him/her some general work conditions (schedule, salary, benefits package).
  • saying to him/her what to do and how he/she may contact you.
Write 140-160 words and do not forget to include indirect questions.

Dear Mr. Chen:

I would like to thank you for participating in the recruitment process to fill our vacant position of general manager. 

Although the decision was not easy, we were very pleased after the interview and decided to hire you and we want to invite to sign the contract the next Monday.

We evaluate your profile and determine that you can supply the needs of the company because of your business administration and physical education and your wide experience as a sports administrator.
